Neurodiversity Lanyard*

Neurodivergence is an invisible disability which members of the public and service providers may struggle to recognise and understand. Neurodiversity Sandymount will provide children and adults with an Neurodiversity Sandymount Lanyard in order to help bridge this gap and help to empower Neurodivergent people in requesting assistance or support. You can request your NS Lanyard today in the contact us box below and we will reach out with next steps.

Currently our lanyard is widely recognised within our Sandymount community as we have run a number of campaigns to drive awareness and worked with local businesses on pledging to make the requested accommodations. If you would like to be able to leverage our lanyard in your community, you or a community group will first need to roll out the Neurodiversity friendly initative to ensure that your local community is aware of what it stands for and they are committed to making the necessary accommodations. If you are interested in rolling our this initiative in your community please reach out to us to avail of our Neurodiversity Friendly roll out framework and guidelines pack.

* Currently we are only distributing the Sandymount lanyard for use within the Sandymount community as it is a Neurodiverse-Friendly town. If you would like to be able to leverage our lanyard in your community, you or a community group will first need to roll out the Neurodiversity friendly initiative, See more on how to become a neurodiverse friendly community under "About Us".

Lanyard: Welcome

Why have a Neurodiversity Lanyard?

Neurodiversity Sandymount are introducing our NS lanyard after feedback from families that support and understand when leveraging service would be very valuable if there was a recognisable signal to business. Having seen the success of the DAA lanyard and AsIAm ID card we decided to roll out a Neurodiversity Sandymount to support neurodivergent people in our community.

Overall, there is huge support for the NS lanyard concept among children, families and neurodivergent adults.

We are hugely excited by this programme’s potential for supporting neurodivergent self-advocacy as well as aiding public services and businesses in Sandymount who wish to offer additional support for neurodivergent clients and customers.

We also have a Neurodiversity Sandymount car sticker available to neurodivergent people that have safety and accessibility issues. This sticker will allow neurodiversity adults/families with neurodivergent children to avail of the Neurodiversity car space outside Tesco. Use of this will be monitored by our NS committee and the local council to ensure it is only being used for genuine cases where neurodivergent people have safety and accessibility issues.

The lanyard will serve as a proof of diagnosis when interacting with service providers in Sandymount. These include public servants and those working in local Sandymount businesses. Any support provided is at the service’s discretion. It does not automatically entitle lanyard wearers and or their companions to preferential treatment over other customers, though Neurodiversity Sandymount is currently in talks with a number of businesses and service providers to provide support and benefits to lanyard wearers.

What do I need to provide when applying for my lanyard?

In order to be eligible for an NS lanyard, proof of diagnosis will be required. When you apply for your lanyard in our below contact box, we will then send you an email with the list of acceptable documents, such as an assessment report’s front page or a letter from a clinician confirming one’s diagnosis of a Neurdivergent profile that we will need you to provide to us. They will be appropriately destroyed as soon as the NS lanyard is produced and will not be re-used or shared with any third party.

Is this only available for applicants living in Sandymount?

All people that come into the Sandymount community and leverage services in the area, may apply for and use the NS lanyard. We will accept a diagnosis from any resident of the Republic of Ireland and/or Northern Ireland.
